Speaking fears can be overcome – All it takes is a little imagination and you will be free of your fear of speaking

Many people are gripped by fear when it comes to speaking in public, talking before others or making presentations. A person can have a thought about speaking and suddenly they are flooded with nerves or worry.

When speaking in public the thing that stops them is their imagination, they imagine being in front of all those people and being scared of speaking and they are scared. Many people, perhaps you, continually avoid speaking because of this phobic, partial phobic or really strong reaction to the thought of speaking before others.

This fear of speaking can all lead to a lifelong avoidance all from one little trigger in the imagination. However, the good news is that this fear can be overcome and here is how!

President Barack Obama and speaking confidence – Use a Memory Map!

Barack Obama is a brilliant speaker who can inspire and connect with peoples emotions. How does the President of the USA speak with such confidence and power? One major reason is that he knows what he is going to say.

If you knew what you wanted to say in a talk, presentation or speech you too would appear confident and actually be more confident.

The great news is that there is a very simple way for you to know what it is you want to say and be a confident speaker as well whether you are speaking at work, in your community or at your Toastmasters Club. How does the President know what to say? Well, for most speeches he uses an autocue, and this helps him know what it is he wants to say. To see the contrast between Obama speaking with an autocue and without have a look at the two videos.

What have dim lighting, a 5 O’clock shadow, and police sirens going off all over the place got in common? No, not a criminal act in the making, but as you’ll see on the video, a visit to Harrovians Speakers Club.

The meeting was very high energy and packed with enthusiasm. The President, Warren Sheng, set the theme with his call to action in his opening address. When it comes to speaking in public even if you are nervous, “Just Do It”.

The Toastmaster, Ruth Vishnick, followed this with her affirmation “you can do it” and finally the General Evaluator, Alex Bustemante, encouraged everybody to “just go for it” explaining that giving the opportunity to everyone to learn to speak is what the club is all about.
